Chatham's Winterfest
Plans Gain Momentum |
|
The Chatham Business Alliance invites you to its first annual WinterFest Friday, December 19 in the Village of Chatham. Shops will stay open until 9:00pm for this holiday event that will include special sales, free drawings, a visit from Santa, music and plenty of small town holiday cheer.
ìThe CBA wanted to do something that would bring the community together and the response has already been very positive,î said Michelle Radley, president of the CBA. ìWe were all disappointed when it was announced that First Nite was cancelled this year. We came up with this idea and it has really caught on. It has an old fashioned feel and I know a lot of people are looking forward to it.î
Along with dozens of stores and restaurants that will stay until at least 9:00pm on December 19, plenty of special events are planned. A number of groups will be strolling through the village singing carols, including Chathamís Womenís Chorus. ìThe kids are very excited about participating,î said Choral Director Samantha McShane. ìIt should be a lot of fun.
Chatham High School class of 2005 will offer gift-wrapping at Rich Krahamís storefront next to Crandell Theatre and there will be a special holiday food drive to benefit The Food Pantry. Collection baskets will be available in stores throughout the village and shoppers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food. The CBA will make a donation of $200 to the Food Pantry. ìWe recognize that the food pantry serves an important function in our community and weíre happy to be able to contribute,î said Kathy Stumph, owner of Welcome Home and a member of the CBA.
No holiday festival is complete without a visit from Santa and on this night he will be at the The Chatham Book Store from 4:30 to 7:00pm. Come listen as he reads some of his favorite stories.
Main Street Grainery will offer free samples of gourmet hot chocolate from 6:00-9:00pm and Chatham Wine & Liquor will present a wine tasting of California Cabernets from 12:30 to 9:00pm.
There will be refreshments of all kinds available outdoors and in. Dunnís Builders Supply will have free coffee and cookies and Brownís Emporium will have refreshments and snacks. Carolynís Restaurant will sell hot chocolate, coffee and hot dogs and Lippera's will sell hot chocolate, homemade chai and roasted chestnuts.
Free gifts abound. Berkshire Books will be giving away limited edition Broadside calendars illustrated by local artist Sandy Connors, no purchase necessary, while supplies last. MultiKids will be giving away an American Spinner Top with any $25 purchase (retail value $4.95.) Kids can also bring their yo-yo into Multi-Kids for a free tune-up, where it will be lubricated and the string replaced.
There will be free drawings too. Enter at Brownís Emporium to win a red sled and a $100 gift certificate. Enter at Windmere to win a $100 gift certificate. Multi-Kids will have a free drawing for a Yo-Yo. (No purchase is necessary to enter any of these drawings.)
